Sunflower and vines on a forearm
Realism · Forearm · Colour · Photo
A large sunflower with layered yellow and orange petals and a shaded brown centre sits on the forearm, with green leaves and curling vine swirls extending down and around the arm. The petals and centre are rendered with soft shading and highlights for a lifelike look, while the vines use bold green outlines and fills. The image shows the same tattoo across three adjacent panels, with the sunflower repeated in each.

Ada had walked three days up the Ruan valley before she saw the first sunflower, standing in a goat trough with its face turned toward the pass as if it had been expecting a traveller.

Her brother Tomas had gone over the Harrow Col in autumn with the tax money and had not come back. The old woman at the last hut told her the vines climbed the rock toward the summit, and whoever followed them to the top would find the sun keeping house there.
Ada followed the vines round every boulder and up every stretch of loose scree. Their leaves were broad as her palm, and the flowers on their heads turned as she passed, keeping her in their gold light. At the top she found a hollow ringed with sunflowers taller than a man, and in the middle of them sat Tomas with his back against a stone, laughing at how slowly she had climbed.
He had not been lost, only held. "They let you go when someone comes looking," he said. She knelt and took his hand, and found the vines had already wound round her wrist. She picked one seed head, tucked it into her coat, and they walked down together while the flowers turned to watch them go. The pass stayed bright for a week after, and nobody in the valley ever asked why the mountain smelled of honey.
