Tattooed arms in front of a brick wall
Forearm · Mixed · Photo
A person stands against a red brick wall, wearing a sleeveless top printed with a group of kittens, with a tiger head superimposed over their own head. Both arms are covered in tattoos, including a red rose near the right hand, a star and several other designs that are partly hidden or unclear. The tattoos mix dark linework and shading with some colour, and the framing is centred on the torso and arms.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
The tiger had been sleeping in the bread van for three nights before Mrs Okonedo thought to ask why the kittens kept following it home. By then there were seven of them, one ginger, one the colour of wet slate, and a white one with a pink ribbon that Mrs Okonedo swore she had never tied on anything. They trailed the tiger down Brewery Lane in a line, tails up, like a wedding party that had lost its bride.

The tiger did not roar at her. It had a red rose tucked behind one ear, gone slightly soft at the petals, and a star pricked on its shoulder like a stamp from somewhere far off. It said it had come from a tent in Margate that had folded for the season, and that the kittens had come with it because it had promised them fish suppers on the Saturday and never delivered. Mrs Okonedo pointed out that a tiger could catch its own fish. The tiger agreed, sadly, that this was true, and that was the trouble.
So they struck a bargain across the bakery counter. The tiger would sweep the flour and keep the back door shut against foxes, the kittens would sit on the cooling racks, which they were not allowed to do, and nobody would mention the ribbon. By Friday the shop smelt of cinnamon and something warmer underneath, and the queue ran out past the postbox.
On the last morning of the month the tiger folded itself into the van, laid the rose on the dashboard, and drove off towards the coast with its small grey and ginger passengers. Mrs Okonedo found a paper star on the doorstep, left behind, and kept it in the till. Every time the bell over the door rang, she looked up expecting stripes, and got only the wind.
