Tattooed arms with a band print skirt
Upper arm · Mixed · Photo
The photograph is cropped from the neck to the upper thigh, showing a woman in a white sleeveless top and a black pencil skirt printed with a vintage Led Zeppelin concert poster. Tattoos cover both arms from the upper arm to the wrist, with ornate floral and figurative designs on the left arm in mostly grey tones and more saturated colour on the right arm. The framing is straight-on against a plain light background.

The airship had gone on upside down, and Nell only saw it when the paint was already tacky along the hoarding. Her father would have cursed her and then taken the brush off her, but he was in Ashgrove Infirmary with his chest, and the sign for Pruett's Harbour Flights had to be on the front of the pier by Saturday. So she sat on an upturned crate in the lock-up behind the Marine Hotel, the tin of blue open at her feet, and tried to work out whether a thing painted wrong could still be called a design.

Pruett came round at four, smoking, his cap pushed back. He studied the silver balloon with its trailing banner, the orange sunset bleeding behind it over the bay. 'Looks like it's flying backwards,' he said. 'Maybe the wind's coming the other way,' Nell said. He laughed, which she had not expected, and paid her in coins that smelled of his pocket.
That night she walked the promenade with the wet brush still in her hand and watched the real wind shove the gulls sideways across the harbour. Upside down, the sky looked exactly the same. She went home to the boarding house, wrote her father one line about the airship sailing the wrong way round, and posted it before she could tidy it up.
