Lettering · Other · Black and grey · Photo
A close-up of a shaved scalp above an ear, with two lines of plain sans serif lettering reading Leave a Coment Below colon. The letters are set in a single dark grey to black ink with soft, slightly blurred edges. The text fills the upper left of the frame against the softly lit skin, and the ear sits in the lower foreground.

Maureen cut the stencil herself. She liked a plain sans serif, nothing fussy with curls to snag the needle, so she set the letters tall and even on the thermal paper and kept her opinions to herself. Spelling had never been her strength, but she knew a clean line when she saw one, and the lettering went on smooth and grey, the edges softened just enough to look as though they had always been meant to sit there.

There was a long pause, the sound of someone checking the hallway for witnesses, and then she said, Just put the colon. Dev wrote the words on the cork board in biro, one m short, and left the colon hanging at the end like a door nobody had decided to close.
