Treble and bass clef tattoo on upper back
Fine line · Back · Black and grey · Photo
A black tattoo of a treble clef with its curl shaped around the bass clef, with two dots to the right, sits centrally on the upper back. The linework is thin and even, with solid black fill in the clef's heavier strokes. The pale, plain skin background and centred framing keep the design as the sole focus.

Old Harrow had kept the walled garden at Coldmere for forty years, and he never once let the boy near the roses. The boy was called Tam, and he came up the lane each morning with a tin whistle in his pocket, playing it when he thought nobody was listening.

One dry June the lower lawn went brown and the well dropped to a trickle. Harrow sat on the wall with his hands folded and said the garden only grew for a voice it trusted. Tam asked which voice. Harrow pointed at the great yew by the gate, its trunk split by lightning and bent into a curl. Inside that curl, he said, lived the deep old note that had sung the first seeds up out of the clay, and it had gone quiet when the last gardener died.
Tam climbed the yew that night and found a bass clef cut into the heartwood, with two pale seeds sitting beside it like a pair of eyes. He knew no music. He only knew the whistle. He blew one thin tune up through the branches, and the yew answered with a hum that shook the dew from every leaf. By morning the lawn was green at the edges, and the two seeds had split and sent up shoots.
Harrow never said a word about it. But that summer he handed Tam the shears and let him into the roses, and the boy kept the whistle in his pocket, playing it only when the lawn needed waking.
