Two cartoon ponies in suits on the back
Back · Colour · Photo
A bold cartoon tattoo shows a blue pony with a rainbow mane standing beside a smaller orange pony with a magenta mane, both wearing black suits and ties. The design uses thick dark outlines, flat colour fills and simple shading on the suits. The image is a close crop of the upper back on pale skin, with the tattoo filling most of the frame.

You are the one with the good suit, which is why the bank still answers your calls. Behind you the big top sags like a wet sail over cracked mud, and the posters on the fence promise a GRAND RETURN in letters the rain has started to lick. Pip stands at your flank, her tie knotted twice because she insists a knot is a promise, and she has been staring at the ticket booth since breakfast as if it might open by itself.

The last act left on Tuesday. Two acrobats, a clown called Mister Sorrel who drank the ticket money, and the lion, who was never really ours. What remains is you, a ledger, and a box of brass rings that no longer ring true. You count the takings on the caravan step while Pip sorts the coins by colour, rainbow stacks lined up on the wood, because she says money should look like it is trying.
On the final night you sell not a single seat. You lead Pip into the empty ring anyway, switch on the one spotlight that still works, and bow to the rows of folding chairs. She copies you a beat late, and the crooked knot at her throat swings loose. You tell her the show was a success. She asks if you believe it. You say the audience is always the hardest thing to lie to, then take her hand and walk out through the flap into the morning, the ring behind you, lit for nobody.
