Rainbow pony heart on upper arm
Upper arm · Colour · Photo
Two cartoon pegasus ponies with grey bodies face each other and nuzzle, their rainbow manes and wings curving together to form a heart shape. The bold black outlines and smooth shading give a clean cartoon look, with a glittery sheen across the grey bodies and rainbow bands. Bright red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple fill the heart against the skin, and the design is centred on the frame.

Dear Ada, the fair pulled into Scarborough on Tuesday and Mum has finally let me take the gallopers' panels out of the van to repaint them. You'll remember the two grey ponies on the old carousel, the ones with rainbow manes Grandad painted in 1971 when the tin ran out of everything except the glitter.

Dad says the carver never meant them to face each other. He put them on opposite sides of the ride, but when the lights were switched off at the cold end of the field and the stripes caught the last of the sun, their wings bent together and made a heart. Mrs Okafor from the candyfloss van cried the first time she saw it, then made us swear not to tell the insurers.
This morning I found the spare panel at the back of the van with sellotape holding a split mane together. Under the varnish someone had scratched two initials and a date from the summer before the fair closed its gates for good. I scraped the rust off the hinges and sat there a long while with a rag in my hand.
I'm posting you a biscuit tin of glitter, bright as those stripes. Come up in August and we'll rig the lights to match. Mum says we can run the ride one last time for the families who still come. Love, Nell.
