Vintage pin-up woman on a thigh

Realism · Thigh · Mixed · Photo

A seated vintage pin-up woman in a dark two-piece swimsuit and white headband, with dark curled hair and red lips, is tattooed on the outer thigh. The shading is smooth and detailed, with soft grey tones on the skin, hair and swimsuit, and the photo shows the same piece from two angles. Red accents on the lips and nails are the main colour against the greyscale, and a partial stockinged leg in grey appears at the top left.

Dennis had the paraffin cans halfway up the spiral when he noticed the calendar again. It hung on a nail beside the logbook in the lamp room, a pin-up gone soft at the corners, and every time he wrote up the hours he found her looking at him over his pen. Walter Osgood had left it behind when they took him off the rock with his chest, along with a tin of peaches nobody wanted to claim.

"She's only paper," Dennis told the gulls, who did not argue. He had been on Gannet Light nine days. Her swimsuit was black with pale stitching at the hips, her knees folded into the sand of some painted beach, and her red nails rested on the rim of a dune as if she had been waiting there for someone to come up the path. He had decided she was waiting for the relief boat.

On the tenth night the wind swung north-west and the lamp began to flicker. Dennis wound the clockwork, cleaned the mantle and swore at the wick until his fingers stung. The sea threw itself against the foot of the tower and the glass shook in its frame. When the light finally guttered out he sat on the cold iron step with his head in his hands, thinking of the blank column in the logbook, the inspector's letter, and the calendar fluttering on its nail.

Morning brought the boat and a lad called Terry Coombe, who looked up at the lamp room and grinned. "Didn't think you'd last the week." Dennis handed down the logbook, then stood a moment with the calendar in his hand. Before climbing down he pinned it back on its nail, so the next keeper would find her waiting. In the log he wrote: lamp relit 3.40 a.m., wind north-west, the lady kept her eyes on the sea.
