Werewolf and zombie face on both calves
Realism · Calf · Colour · Photo
The left calf shows a snarling werewolf head with bared fangs and a red drip of blood, with a small dark silhouetted figure below it. The right calf shows a decayed green face with red accents above a dark house with lit windows. The shading is soft and detailed, with teal, green and black tones and bright red highlights, set against a dark background.

The fox had been screaming since dusk, and by the time you reached the gate of Hollin Cottage the moor had gone the colour of wet slate. Only one window was lit, high under the eaves, and you had walked six miles toward it with a loaf under your arm and a promise to Mrs Ackroyd that you would be gone before the moon cleared the ridge.

Her son Tom met you at the door. He had gone out on the last full moon with his dog and his father's shotgun, and he had come home on his own two feet, which was the trouble. His face had gone the green of pond weed, the skin loose over the bones as if something had been working underneath it. He took the bread without thanks and stood aside to let you in, and you noticed he had not blinked once since the gate.
Mrs Ackroyd sat by the range with the Bible open on her knees, reading aloud to nobody. "Don't look at the window," she said, so of course you did. Out on the heath a long grey shape was keeping pace with the wall, low to the ground, stopping whenever you stopped. Its breath clouded the glass. Under the table the dog lay whining in its sleep, though the dog had been buried in March.
When the moon finally cleared the ridge, the wall stood empty and the window went dark. Tom sat down opposite you, folded his hands, and smiled for the first time, showing you what the lamp had been left burning for.
