Yin yang cat tattoo on the back of the neck
Neck · Black and grey · Photo
A person's neck and upper back are seen from behind, with hair tied up in a bun and a light knitted top. A solid black circle sits at the nape, divided into a yin yang design with a cat silhouette in each half. The ink is bold and flat, with no visible shading, and bright daylight washes out the background.

Hush now, and mind the kettle, because this is the bit where the snow gets into the chimney. Two cats kept the mill at Harrowgate Fold, one black as wet slate and one white as a wiped plate, and they had never once agreed about the rats.

The miller's daughter tried to part them. She built a wall of sacks down the middle of the granary, black side and white side, and each morning found the sacks shifted and both cats asleep on the same barley, one paw each across the seam. She shut the black one out, and it came back through the flour chute with a white hair stuck to its ear, which it refused to explain.
Come the hard winter, the river froze solid against the wheel and the rats came in from the fields looking for supper. The cats went out together that night, the black tail curled round the white one, and they did not come back until the thaw. The miller's daughter sat up with a lamp, certain she had lost them both, and at dawn she found them on the step: the black one sitting upright, the white one lying in its shadow, each keeping the other warm.
So when the snow comes down like this, and you see two of anything sharing one small circle of shelter, you put the kettle on and you leave the door on the latch. Now, is that my ale going cold on the bar?
