Yoda with a lightsaber on the upper back
Realism · Back · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo shows Yoda leaping forward in a robe, gripping a lightsaber held horizontally across the composition, with clawed hand detail and a pointed ear extending to the edge of the design. The shading is smooth and detailed, with soft grey gradients on the robe and skin tones and sharper contrast in the face and folds of fabric. The top photograph shows the piece in normal light, and the lower photograph shows the same tattoo under UV light, where the lightsaber blade glows.

The lost property box lands on your desk on a Tuesday, under the railway arches at the Holbeck depot, with a pencilled note taped to the lid: Do not open in daylight. You are the only one on the night desk, so the box is yours. Inside, wrapped in bicycle tape gone grey with age, is a long metal rod with a worn grip and a small brass catch. The label says it was handed in at Leeds station by a woman who only gave her name as Pike, and who said it had belonged to a teacher who never once raised his voice.

You switch off the strip lights and carry the rod to the photography cupboard, where the ultraviolet bulb still hangs from its hook. When you flick it on, the tape turns violet and the catch throws a thin line of white across the wall, bright as a struck match and steady as a pulse. Out past the window, a goods train slides under the bridge and the rod answers it with a faint hum, low enough to feel in your back teeth.
At two o'clock the side door rattles. Old Mr Adeyemi from the shoe repair on Hunslet Road stands in the drizzle with his cap in his hands. He does not ask about the box. He looks at the violet light on your face and says that the blade was never meant to be seen in ordinary lamplight, only where the dark needs something to hold it.
You leave the rod on the top shelf, lit and humming, and write a second note for the next shift: keep the lights low, and wait for whoever comes asking for it by its old name.
