Zelda-themed full sleeve with castle and moon
Realism · Upper arm · Colour · Photo
The sleeve combines a castle with spires, a large grimacing moon face with glowing red eyes, and a starry night sky. Lower on the forearm, two standing figures in green and pink sit above a small masked character beside a bush. The shading is smooth and painterly with bold colour, and the four photos show the design wrapping around the arm.

Corporal Anneke Vos had been told the moon over the Veren pass only came out on nights when somebody lied at the checkpoint. She had laughed at that her first winter. Tonight the moon hung low and lopsided above the ridge, its face squeezed into the grimace the drivers called the Grinner, and she kept her eyes on the papers instead.

A lorry came up the switchbacks with its lamps off. The driver handed over a passport folded so many times the photograph had gone soft. Anneke read the name, then the date, then looked up at the man, who seemed younger than the stamp suggested. "Where are you headed?" "Up to the castle, past the forest road." Nobody went to the castle any more. The walls had been shut since the flood. She stamped the page anyway.
By the barrier sat the boy who sold matches from a tin, always in the lee of the same thorn bush, a wooden mask pushed up on his forehead. He lifted it an inch as the lorry idled and said the moon was counting. Anneke asked what it counted. "The ones who go through without looking back," he said, and held out a match she did not want.
She looked back anyway. The moon's mouth had stretched wider, and the sky above the spires was thick with stars that moved when she blinked. She lowered the barrier behind the lorry, and the moon slowly stopped grinning, as though it had lost interest in her.
