Airplane and quote on upper arm
Lettering · Upper arm · Black and grey · Photo
A close crop of a woman's upper arm and shoulder showing a small black airplane silhouette and three lines of text reading i've got the world to go in a typewriter-style font. The ink is solid black with crisp edges, and the lettering is set left to right with the plane placed just above the first line. The photograph is taken indoors in soft light, with a navy top and gold layered necklaces in the frame.

The e key on the portable has started sticking again, so you will have to forgive the gaps. I have freed it twice with a bent paperclip and a dab of Vaseline, but Mr Pryce at the shop says it wants a new spring, and he cannot get one before March. I am typing this at the kitchen table the way I did your grandad's letters from the depot in 1964, with the radio on low so I do not feel I am talking to nobody.
The suitcase is by the back door. I have packed the tin of shortbread, two jumpers you will not wear, and the road atlas from 1991, because you said you wanted to see where the motorways used to be. Do not tell me it is out of date. Places do not move as fast as roads do, and the river still bends where it always bent.
Your flight goes from Heathrow at twenty past six. I know you will be dozing on the coach before the M25 even starts. Yesterday I walked up to the ridge behind the church and watched a plane cross over the hill, low, with the sun catching its belly. I stood there until it was a dot and then nothing, and I thought about the morning you were born and how I could not get my breath, and how I got it back anyway.
Write when you land. Don't worry about the spelling. I will know what you mean even with the gaps, the same as I always did.
Love, Nan
PS. I have typed it out for you in case you forget the words. i'v got th world to go.
