Always lettering with Harry Potter symbols on a forearm
Lettering · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo runs across the inner forearm and spells the word always using symbols: a Deathly Hallows triangle with a circle and vertical line, a thin wand, round-framed glasses, a lightning bolt, and a snake shape forming the final letter. The linework is solid and bold in black ink with flat fill and no shading. The image is a close, straight-on shot of the arm against a tiled background, with the tattoo centred in the frame.

Dear Tom,

The roof of the east tower came down in the gale on Tuesday, so I am writing this at the kitchen table in the gatehouse, where the cold is only half as bad. Mr Pryce from the estate office rode up with his survey and says the whole curtain wall will need pinning before spring. He looked at the great arch with its three blocked windows the way you look at a horse you have decided not to buy.
I found your old tin under the stair this morning, the one with the broken clasp. Inside were the things you hid from Mother: a pair of round spectacles with one lens cracked, a stub of birch you swore was a wand, and the card you drew for me the summer we rowed out to the island. You had scratched the old signs onto it in pencil, a triangle with a circle through it, a lightning flash, a snake coiled into the shape of an S. I have kept that card in my apron pocket ever since.
Your ship sails Thursday, and I know you think I am writing to scold you. I am not. Each time the wind finds a gap in these walls I hear the bell from the chapel that fell in, and I think of you on the far side of the water, counting the tides. Come back to the castle when you can. The gatehouse door still sticks, but it opens for a steady hand.
Always, Nell
