Armoured warrior with hammer on upper arm
Realism · Upper arm · Black and grey · Photo
A long-haired warrior in a cloak and mail armour grips a large hammer, with lightning bolts and a smoky background behind him. The portrait is rendered in black and grey with soft shading, fine highlights and strong contrast on the face and hammer head. The tattoo fills most of the frame, with the figure angled diagonally across the upper arm and shoulder.

The lift at Calder House stopped between the ninth and tenth floors the same minute the storm came over the ridge, and you knew then that the wind had come for the building. Mr Dunn, caretaker since before the blocks had numbers painted on their doors, leaned against the stairwell wall with a torch in his teeth and said the wind was only the god drawing breath before the hammering started. You told him to stop. He grinned and kept talking.

He told it the way his mother had told it in a village he had never seen: a warrior with long hair pulled back from a hard face, a coat of iron rings rattling over his shoulders, and a hammer so heavy the sky had to make room for it. Each time he swung it, the thunder rolled down onto the hills and the lightning ran along the power lines like something alive. "He isn't angry," Dunn said. "He's just tired of waiting for someone to fix the lifts."
Between the floors, the emergency light buzzed and dimmed. Through the narrow window a white fork split the sky over the car park, and the whole block shook, not like an earthquake but like a door slammed by someone very strong. Then the stairwell lights came on one floor at a time, climbing towards you from the bottom, and somewhere below the lift motor groaned back into life.
Dunn clicked off the torch. "There he goes," he said. You looked at the shadow on the far wall and, for one long second, it seemed to carry a hammer on its shoulder and wait for you to find the button.
