Be here now lettering on the inner wrist
Lettering · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
The photograph shows the words 'be here now.' written in small, black, typewriter-style serif letters across the inner forearm near the wrist. The lines are crisp and even, with solid black ink and slight softness at the edges of the letters. The image is in colour only for the skin tone, grey sleeve and white background, with the tattoo itself in black, and the text sits centred in the frame.

Mr Tobias Greaves had repaired typewriters on Pier Row for thirty-one years, and in all that time nobody had asked him for anything but a new ribbon. So when the woman with the wet umbrella set a grey Imperial on his counter and said the carriage would not return, he lifted the cover, looked at the bell, and told her it was the spring, not the carriage.

She came back on Thursdays. She typed letters to a brother in Halifax, she said, and tore each one up before the ink had dried. Greaves kept the machine longer than it needed, oiling every key until the e struck clean. He noticed she never looked at the page while she typed, only at the grey harbour through the window, where the fishing boats shifted against their chains.
On the last Thursday she left the machine behind and did not return for it. Greaves found a single sheet rolled into the platen. Only three words were typed there, a little uneven, the full stop pressed hard into the paper: be here now. He read it twice, then carried it to the window and held it up to the light, the way his father had taught him to check paper for watermarks.
He did not finish the repair that week. He sat at the counter with the sheet flat under a glass paperweight and watched the tide come in over the slipway, one boat at a time, until the light went and the bell on the harbour wall rang for no one.
