Be the change script on a wrist
Lettering · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A close photograph of the words Be the change written in flowing black script across the inner wrist or forearm. The linework is bold and even, with solid black ink and no shading or colour. The text fills most of the frame against warm wooden background and pale skin.

The stylus skipped on the third word, so Maren Tallis lifted it, wiped the glass with her sleeve, and started the stroke again. Four hundred years of dust had settled into the old display, and the script it held was looser than anything the station's fonts allowed: a tail that swooped back on itself, a loop in the B like a held breath. Someone had written it to be read aloud.

Be the change, the file said, and nothing else. No author, no date, only a cluster of metadata that the archive's clerk had tagged as ornamental. Maren had spent eleven years restoring the lettering on the hab's notice boards, and she knew the difference between a slogan and a sentence someone meant. Her supervisor, Dov Haskett, leaned over her shoulder with his tea and said it looked like something you'd stencil on a mug.
She didn't argue. She traced the letters onto a sheet of recycled film, the way her grandmother had traced headlines before the reclamation, and found the change in it herself. The h went up at the wrong angle. The n had been drawn by a hand that had decided, halfway through, to trust itself. Dov was right that it was easy to say. It was harder to do in a room where the lights dimmed for night cycle and the water tasted of copper.
When the rota went up that week, the crew saw the new heading first: a wide swoop of ink along the top of the board, slightly uneven at the joins. Nobody mentioned it. Two shifts later a girl from the algae tanks stood in front of it with a bucket on her hip and read it twice, then went back to work carrying the bucket a little differently.
