Birthday party slogan tattoo on wrist

Lettering · Other · Mixed · Photo

A close photograph of a text-based tattoo on the inner wrist, against a blurred dark brown background. The wording is set in black and red lettering, with the words 21st Birthday Party in red script and a martini glass and a cocktail glass drawn in black line. The linework is clean and solid, and the text is centred on the wrist with the design sitting in the middle of the frame.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

By half past eleven the lost property tray behind the bar at the Crown and Anchor held one glove, a bridesmaid's shoe and a laminated card that read IF I'M LOST, BUY ME A DRINK. Pauline had found the card wedged inside a bus timetable and swore it had been left by someone's nan. Nobody claimed it, so she propped it against the optics, where it stood looking smug among the gin.

The stranger came in at quarter to twelve and asked for the upstairs room, the one with the streamers and the karaoke machine. When Pauline told him the party had finished an hour ago and the upstairs room was just a room now, he laughed as though she had told a good joke. He said the taxi had dropped him at the wrong corner of Hebden Road, and he had the look of a man who had been lost for some time and was getting used to it.

He read the card twice, then pointed at it with a finger that had clearly been in several glasses already. Pauline poured two drinks without being asked, a martini with too much olive and a tall cocktail with a slice of lime slumped against its rim, and set them in front of him. He reached for his wallet. She slid the card across the bar instead. 'That's the rule,' she said. 'Found property gets a drink. You're the first one who's ever read it properly.'

He lifted the martini, looked up at the ceiling as if the party might be up there after all, and raised it to the empty stool beside him. Then he drank the cocktail too, slowly, and went upstairs to find out whether anyone was still looking for him.
