Blackletter uppercase alphabet flash
Lettering · Black and grey · Flash
A sheet of uppercase letters from A to Z arranged in rows, drawn in a blackletter style with pointed strokes and curling flourishes. The letters use solid black ink with a hand-drawn texture and no shading. The plain cream background and even spacing keep every letter clearly readable.

Mind the wasps, they've been at the windfalls since Lammas. Sit where the shade is. You asked me about Tobias Quill, and I'll tell it once, so keep your hands out of your lap and listen.

Quill came up the lane in the August of the bad harvest with a satchel of pens and a pot of ink the colour of a rook's wing. He wasn't a priest and he wasn't a mapmaker, though he'd sign himself so when the innkeeper asked. He wanted a wall to write on. Old Mrs Haddow gave him the orchard wall, the one that faces the sun, because her husband had grafted those Bramleys and she said they'd have something to say for themselves.
He worked a week in the heat. Every morning he drew a letter on the bark with a sharpened stick, and every evening the letter had grown spikes and curls like frost on a window. A for Apple, he said, and the ink ran down the trunk like sap. By the Sunday he had reached the Ls, and the children had started trailing him with windfalls in their pockets, hoping he'd write their names.
On the last evening the sky went the colour of a bruise and Quill stopped at the Z. He sat under the tree with his sleeves rolled and said the letters were all one tree, really, if you looked at them long enough. Then he walked off down the lane, and in the morning the wall was bare except for a line of thorns shaped like a question mark. Mrs Haddow still picks from that row. Bite one in late August and you'll taste ink.
