Blue police box in an ornate frame on an upper arm
Neo-trad · Upper arm · Colour · Photo
A blue police box sits centred inside an oval frame of green and gold scrolling filigree, with a red bow tie and a black high-top sneaker tucked beneath it. The linework is bold and dark, with flat fills and some soft shading on the frame and the sneaker. The tattoo sits on the upper arm of a person wearing a grey t-shirt with the sleeve rolled, and the face is not shown.

Dilys had been trading under the iron awning on Calder Street for nineteen years, and in all that time the rain had never come down this hard on a Saturday. Inside it a blue police box stood on a painted base, its lamp unlit, and beneath it someone had tucked a pair of black high-top sneakers with a red bow tie draped over the laces. Noor had painted it for a bet, she'd said, on a wet afternoon in the flat above the launderette, and swore it was the only honest picture of a doorway she knew.
A man in a dripping anorak stopped and tapped the glass. "Is that thing bigger on the inside?" he asked. Dilys told him it was, but only if you stood in it properly and didn't fidget. He laughed and offered twenty pounds. She shook her head. Noor would want it hung where somebody still believed in doors that opened onto other places, and a stall on Calder Street was not that.
The rain thinned to nothing just after four. Sun slid under the awning and caught the gilt, and for a moment the blue door threw back a small bright reflection of Dilys herself, holding a roll of brown paper. The sneakers looked as though they had only just stepped out of the frame, and she found she was smiling at them.
