Blue police box TARDIS with banner on ribs
Lettering · Ribs · Colour · Photo
A blue TARDIS police box stands upright above a curled banner with the words Everyone Is Important in black script. The box has bold black outlines, with blue shading on its front and darker blue shading on its side, and its windows and panels are picked out in lighter tones. The design sits centrally on the skin, with the banner beneath the box and the ribs visible at the edge of the frame.

The box turned up on the second night of the hard frost, standing in the gateway to the top field as if someone had parked it there and forgotten about it. Dad would have had plenty to say. He had been dead four winters, and I was the one left with the sheep, the bad knee and the lambing book.

The door wasn't locked. Inside it was far bigger than the outside had any right to be, all brass rails and a glowing column climbing into the dark, and a man in a coat too long for him was hopping about pulling levers. He said his name was the Doctor and that he had come about the ewe in the low pen, the one with the twin lying wrong. I didn't believe a word of it, but the ewe was dying, so I didn't argue.
He had no bag, only a torch and a ridiculous bow tie. He knelt in the straw with his sleeves rolled up and talked to the lamb the whole time, low and rude, as if it were a bank manager who'd kept him waiting. 'Why bother with one lamb in a shed in Shropshire?' I asked, when it was breathing and the ewe was up on her feet. He looked at me as though I'd asked why the sky was up. 'Because nobody counts the little ones,' he said, 'which is exactly why somebody should.'
By morning the box was gone, leaving a ring of flattened frost and a single blue paint flake in the gateway. I still have the lamb's tag, number forty-seven, and in the margin of the lambing book, under the date, there is a line in handwriting I don't recognise. It reads 'Everyone is important,' underlined twice. I have never once thought of crossing it out.
