Blue ribbon flower on a forearm
Forearm · Colour · Photo
The tattoo shows a four-petalled flower outline with a looped ribbon shape at its centre, drawn in a single blue ink with pale grey-white highlights inside the lines. The linework is smooth and bold, with slightly uneven edges and some softness that may be from healing. The design fills the frame on a pale inner forearm, with the flower sitting diagonally across the skin.

I told him you would have sent it back for being too sweet, and he said that was the point of a Sunday.

The bosun has been drawing on the bulkhead again, a little blue flower with four petals that never quite close, and a ribbon tied in its middle as if someone meant to come back for it. He says it is his sister's design and that she made him promise never to finish it. Every watch he touches it up with a tin of ink he keeps behind the biscuit tins, and every watch the paint looks a shade paler at the edges. I have stopped asking him why.
The weather is turning, so I will post this at Gibraltar if the wind lets us in. Keep my chair warm and do not let your brother near the jam. When I am home I will bring you the ribbon off the bulkhead, if the bosun will part with it, and we will see whether the flower will open for us.
Your loving sister, Ada
