Cat with peacock feathers and red flowers
Neo-trad · Forearm · Colour · Photo
A cat with green eyes wears a headdress of teal peacock feathers, a large amber gem and small red gems, with a gold bead necklace below. Beneath it sit a faceted red heart gem and red flowers with green leaves and a green poppy bud. Bold black outlines, smooth shading and saturated colour are shown in three side-by-side views of the same piece.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Mrs Ottoline Pell had been trying to get the cat off the jeweller's counter since the ferry came in, and the cat, a grey-brown tom with eyes the colour of sea glass, had no intention of leaving. He had walked through the open door as if he owned the shop, leapt onto the velvet tray, and sat there while old Tobias Marr fussed about with a loupe.

"He wants the headdress," Tobias said. "Look at him."
The headdress lay where Tobias had been polishing it: a fan of teal peacock feathers, each eye ringed in gold, pinned behind a single amber stone the size of a plum stone, with three small garnets set along the band and a string of gold beads trailing from it. A mainland maker had built it for a masquerade that never happened, when the winter boats stopped running. Nobody had bought it since.
Ottoline thought of the summer festival on the quay, the bunting, and the flower sellers who packed red camellias into paper cones beside the harbour wall. She thought of the poppy heads that grew wild on the cliff path and rattled in the wind like dry beads. "He can have it," she said. "If he sits still."
The cat sat still. Tobias set the feathers on his brow with two careful fingers, and the cat looked up at them both, green-eyed and entirely unimpressed, as though he had worn crowns all his life. Then the ferry bell rang once across the water, he stood, shook the feathers into place, and was gone through the door. When Ottoline looked again, the tray held only a single gold bead, and out on the quay the teal plumes were already bobbing above the crowd like a tide coming in.
