Cherry tattoos on both ankles
Ankle · Colour · Photo
The photo shows the lower legs and ankles of a person standing on carpet, with a matching tattoo on each leg just above the heel. Each design is a pair of red and pink cherries with green leaves or a bow, outlined with fine dark linework and accented with small dots. The ink is mostly colour, and the background is a plain room with a patterned fabric and a bare foot at the edge of the frame.

Dear Marjorie,

The cherries came in on Tuesday, two crates of Stella off Mr Pagett's trees, and I have been eating them over the sink like a girl who has never had a pudding. You will say I am being greedy. I am being thrifty, because the price has gone up again and the stallholders on the front are charging a penny a twist more than they did in June.
Mrs Dacre came round the back of the shop asking for the pair of pink ribbons you left in the drawer. I told her they had gone to the jumble. She looked at the cherries I painted on the window while I said it, which I did not appreciate, and then she bought four quarter-pound bags and paid in threepenny bits, counting them out one at a time like she was settling a fine.
Brenda has been sweet on the carrier from Ashford for a month now, and I shall let you guess what kind of sweet. Her mother has noticed the bows on the hook behind the door and says it is no place for a girl with a good name. I told her a good name is only a thing that gets said in church.
Come down at the weekend if you can. Bring the tin of drawing pins. I want to fix the last of the ribbon above the window before the frost, and I need a steady pair of hands that is not my own.
Love, Vera
