Don't fear script lettering design
Lettering · Colour · Flash
A single line of cursive script reads don't fear followed by a small full stop, set on a plain white background. The handwritten strokes are fairly fine and even, with a long tapering entry stroke at the start and a looping descender on the f. The lettering is rendered in a warm gold or copper tone with a slightly textured, metallic finish.

The gold leaf on the cabin door had flaked again by the time the Tallow Wren came round the bend below Stourmouth, and you stood on the roof with the tiller rope burning your palm while Ada counted ducks on the bank as though they owed her money. The river was brown and high after three days of rain. Somewhere ahead lay the weir at Hadley Cut, where an old lock-keeper had once told your father that boats only went over it in dreams.

You had never taken a barge through the cut. Your father had, every spring, with his jaw set and his cap pulled low, and you had watched him from the towpath with a sick weight in your chest that you mistook for boredom. Now the rope was yours. Ada wanted to turn back. You could see it in the way she held the boathook, not raising it, just gripping.
‘Don’t fear,’ you said, and it came out thinner than you meant, more like a question. Ada looked at you properly then. She laughed, short and surprised, and pointed the hook at the water. The channel curled left under a line of willows, a seam of calmer brown where the current slid off the gravel. Your father’s chalk marks were still on the post, faded to ghosts but there.
You brought her round slowly, the bow kissing the edge of the seam, the engine coughing like an old dog. The cut took you in a roar that filled your ears, and then, all at once, spat you out into flat water below the weir. Ada whooped. You found your fingers aching from the rope, and you let go one finger at a time, and wrote nothing in the log, because some things need no record.
