Handwritten 'dont fear.' script design
Lettering · Colour · Flash
A single line of flowing, handwritten script reads 'dont fear.' with a closing full stop. The strokes are fine and even, with looping joins between letters and a long, tapering entry stroke at the start. The lettering is rendered in a warm metallic gold or copper tone on a plain white background, with no body part or other elements visible.

Mrs Pellow at the chandlery says the tide turns at four and the Marigold goes out on it whatever the glass says. I have stopped arguing with the sea, the way you stopped arguing with me about the wool jumper, so I will argue with you instead, which is cheaper.

Write on Sundays, even if it is only to tell me the pilchards are poor. Keep the wet side of your oilskin to the wind. Eat the bread before the cheese goes sweaty, and don't trust Tom Garrick with a rope, whatever he says about his knots. The gulls on the slipway know you now. The little grey one with the bent foot has been waiting by the net loft every morning since you left the quay, and I have started leaving crusts for it on the step, which I'm sure you'll find ridiculous.
I wrote the words on the back of the tide table first and then scored them out, because they sound like something people only say when they are frightened themselves. So I will say the rest plainly and stop. The harbour lamp will be lit when you come round the point. I will be on the wall in my father's coat, and I will not wave like a fool, I will simply stand there until your boat is a speck and then a memory.
Don't fear.
Mam.
