Eye candy jar of eyeballs on thigh
Neo-trad · Thigh · Colour · Photo
The design shows a glass sweet jar with a lid wrapped in cobweb pattern and a bow topped by a small skull. Inside, many coloured eyeballs are arranged around a yellow oval label reading EYE CANDY, with red drips running down the base. Bold black outlines frame the jar, and vivid purple, green, blue and yellow shading gives the piece a saturated, colour-dominant look against the skin.

Sit down by the stove and don't touch the jar, that's the first rule. Mab Tullow ran the Gallowgate on the Dunnock canal, a sweet-shop boat painted green and gold, and on her roof she kept a glass jar with a cobweb cover and a silk bow on top. Her barley sugars, her aniseed balls and her liquorice pipes all sat in that jar, and nobody ever bought a thing from it, because nobody had seen what she kept in the middle.

Children came along the towpath every Saturday with their pennies. Mab would lift the lid, the cobweb creaking, and roll out one sweet after another, and the lockkeeper's boy swore the sweets were looking back at him. Hard-boiled, she said, with paint on. The label in the middle read EYE CANDY in her own loopy hand, and she'd wink and say a penny a lick, and the bairns would shriek and run off laughing.
Then came the winter the canal froze to glass. A lad named Ferris Dunn, who owed her three shillings, crept aboard in the night and took the top sweet, a blue one the size of a plum. They found him on the ice at dawn, grinning fit to split, clutching nothing at all. Mab only shook her head over the empty place in the jar and said it had been counting.
Every spring after that she topped the jar up with fresh ones, and every spring some fool ended up owing her money. So if you've come to settle what you owe, pass me the coins, and mind the lid. It's still counting.
