Eye in triangle on a galaxy arm tattoo
Realism · Upper arm · Colour · Photo
A realistic blue eye with detailed lashes and a dark pupil sits inside a triangle outline on the arm. The background is a nebula of purple, pink, orange and teal with scattered stars and four-pointed sparkles, shaded to blend softly into the skin. Vivid colour dominates the composition, with the eye placed centrally and the galaxy wrapping around the limb.

The last northbound service pulled out past the signal box at ten to eleven, and you are still stacking lost umbrellas in the cupboard under the stairs when the lamp above platform four starts to hum. Nobody should be out there. You take the torch with the cracked lens off its hook and walk the yellow line, a tin of pear drops rattling under your arm, because you promised the signalman's girl you would bring her one with a purple wrapper.

The sky above the footbridge has gone the colour of a plum bruise, pink at the edges, teal where the stars crowd thickest. Something sits on the bench beside the timetable board. It is a triangle of pale light, outlined like a road sign, and inside it sits an eye, blue as the flame on a gas ring, with lashes that curl like bracken. It does not blink. It is watching the departures board, which has shown nothing but CANCELLED since the storm took the wires down in March.
You sit at the far end of the bench and offer the tin. The eye considers it, then considers you. "What time do you make it?" it asks, in a voice like an announcement heard through a tunnel. You look up at the clock. Its hands have stopped at twenty past ten, the minute the old driver used to sound his horn for the swans. "Twenty past ten," you say. "Then there is still time," says the eye, and the nebula behind it brightens, one spark after another, the way carriage lights come on down a long platform.
A star slides from the edge of the sky and drops into the tin with a sound like a coin. You unwrap a pear drop and find the purple one on top. When the first train of the morning grinds in, the bench is empty and the board reads ON TIME, and you still have that small bright speck in your pocket, warm as a sweet left too long in the sun.
