Eye on finger and script on wrist
Fine line · Hand · Mixed · Photo
A hand rests palm down on a pale marble surface, showing a small blue eye outlined in fine line on the side of one finger. Dark ink script reading kisskillkiss runs across the inner wrist, partly covered by gold bangles and bracelets. The soft natural lighting shows clean linework and simple, flat colour in the eye, with the script in black ink.

Old Tennant had made the last batch before his hands gave out, each lens no wider than a sloe, pressed flat so it could sit against the side of a finger like a ring.

"Kiss it, kill it, kiss it back," he used to say, rolling each one between his palms. That was how the village kept the wood's bad luck at bay. You gave the charm a kiss to bless it, pressed it to the crook of a cold hand, and then you pinched out the candle that had lit it. Tennant said the third kiss was the one that mattered, because it was the one that sealed the bargain with whatever lived past the last oak.
The tenth eye had gone to the carter's boy, who had sworn he'd never touched it. Mags found the track of small boots in the frost at the forest edge, and the marks ended at a hollow stump where something had been left as a gift. There lay the bead, warm as a pulse, its black pupil turned up towards her. When she lifted it, the eye on her own finger grew warm, and the blue of it deepened, as though something beyond the trees had only just noticed her looking.
