Fine line script word on the forearm
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A single cursive word is written in thin, unshaded black linework across the inner forearm. The strokes are even and delicate, with a looped, handwritten character. The black and white photograph shows a plain skin backdrop and a checkered floor in the background.

The letter you sent in February is still in the tin under the stairs, the one with coal dust smudged across the envelope. I read it again last night by the stove. You wrote that the sea at Skerry was grey as a slate roof and that the men there sang flat, and you made me laugh out loud in an empty kitchen. At the bottom you signed your name with that long looping stroke, the one that curls back under itself like a rope round a bollard. I have been trying to make my own letters do the same ever since. They won't. Mine stand up straight like fence posts.
Thursday the boat comes in with the post, and I have decided to give this to the purser to carry across, though he will want a penny for it. I have written the date at the top in my awkward hand. Below it I have left a line empty, and I hope you will fill it with something in your own hand, the way you always did.
Come home before the herring run, or I will come to you on the next crossing and make a fuss on the gangway. Yours, with the tide tables and all their wrong sums, Ada.
