Forest and sunset full arm sleeve
Realism · Shoulder · Mixed · Photo
A woman in a dark vest shows a full arm sleeve of a forest landscape, with dark pine trees rising over rocky ground and a small deer on the upper shoulder. The sky is shaded in soft orange and red washes that fade into grey ink near the trees. The linework is fine and the rocks are shaded in grey tones, with the composition wrapping from shoulder to wrist.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Hebe Marrow kept the goats on the high pasture above Corrie Dale, and in the autumn her brother Tam went missing after a red stag came down to drink at their trough. He was twelve and had taken the lantern. The next morning their father found it hanging from a rock by the burn, still warm enough to smell of oil.

Hebe went after him at dusk, when the sky over the ridge had gone the colour of a coal left too long in the grate. The pines stood close and black, and the rock underfoot was grey and smooth as the backs of sleeping sheep. She followed the stag's hoofprints in the moss. They were fresh, and they did not stop.
At the top of the rocks the wood opened onto a ledge where the whole sky burned orange and red above the far hills. Her brother sat beside the stag, which lowered its head and let him rest a hand on its neck. The old women said the deer belonged to the forest, and that it took lost children and set them back on the path at the first star. Tam had lost nothing but his fear.
They walked down together with the lantern swinging between them, and the stag stood on the ridge until the last red left the water. Their father never believed the story, but the next spring he planted a young pine beside the trough. Every autumn the goats still come down to drink beneath it, and on clear evenings you can see a stag's shape standing on the rim, watching them home.
