Forest cabin and pines on a forearm
Realism · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo shows a small wooden cabin with a pitched roof and windows at the lower edge, set among tall pine trees and a dense treeline. Above the forest, a ridge and a hazy sky with cloud and light stretch around the limb. The work uses fine gradual shading and sharp contrast in the trees, with soft fading in the mist and sky.

Mr Haskins had come up in September with a theodolite in a leather case and a notebook full of numbers he would not explain. He paid for the back room in advance and asked only for bread and a lamp. He drew the ridge every morning, the same ridge, and told her the mountain was creeping a yard a year toward the lake. She laughed at him. He did not laugh back.
The first snow came early. On the ninth morning his boots were still by the hearth, dry, and the drawing lay on the table with the ridge sketched in pencil and, beneath it, a small square with two windows and the door drawn open. Beside it he had written in careful capitals: LEAVE THE LIGHT ON FOR THE SURVEYOR.
She set the lamp in the window that night and every night after. The mist came down so thick that the pines went grey and then went out, one by one, until only the cabin's own lit square held the dark back. Somewhere past the ridge the dog barked once more, and then she heard boots on the frozen path, slow and unhurried, coming down.
