Full moon tattoo on a forearm
Realism · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo depicts a full moon with a detailed surface of craters and darker patches. It is rendered in black and grey with soft tonal shading, fine stippled texture and lighter highlights that give the sphere a rounded form. The circle sits centrally on the forearm, with a blurred dark background and a chair visible on the right.

The moon came down to Carrow House the winter the lifts stopped, because nobody on the nineteenth floor had looked up in a long time. It was a plain grey thing, pocked all over like a loaf left too long in the bin, and it sat on the flat roof with its chin on the parapet, as tired as any tenant after a double shift.

A girl called Precious Oduya went up with a bag of onions and her grandfather's torch to find out why. She found the moon scratching at the gravel with one finger. 'Every crater on me is a place where somebody stopped to be sorry,' it said. 'I cannot be round until they are filled.' Precious asked what she could fill them with. The moon said only what it had been given, so she went down the nineteen floors and knocked on every door, and people gave her what they had: a bus ticket, a wedding ring, a child's first tooth wrapped in tissue, a letter never sent.
She carried it all up in the onion bag, one thing at a time, and the moon took each piece and pressed it into the dark places until its face went round and smooth and bright. When the last letter went in, it lifted off the parapet and hung over the estate, full as a bowl, and every window in the block turned its lamp up to meet it.
Precious kept the torch in her coat after that, though she never once needed it on the stairs, because the moon had learned to light the way down for anyone who asked.
