Full sleeve of flowers with a frog and lotus
Botanical · Shoulder · Colour · Photo
The collage shows one arm covered by a full sleeve of flowers, including large pink hibiscus, a purple lotus, a frog on a leaf and a blue butterfly. The linework is bold and dark, with smooth, blended shading on the petals and leaves. The tattoo is in bright, saturated colours, and the six views show the sleeve from different angles against plain walls and a patterned backdrop.

Ansa had kept the pond behind the granary for thirty years, and in all that time the water had never gone green at the edges. The summer the river shrank to a sliver, the lotus leaves curled up like burnt paper, and one evening a frog sat on the stone rim with a yellow stalk in its mouth and asked her for a bloom in return for rain.

"Rain is not mine to give," Ansa said. "Ask the sky."
"The sky asked me to ask you," said the frog, and it blinked slowly, the way frogs do when they have been patient for a long time.
So she gave it the purple lotus, the last one still open, and the frog set it on a leaf and sat beside it. Her son Ebo laughed at her for believing a frog. He laughed less the next morning, when clouds came over the hills dark as wet slate and the rain fell for nine days straight, filling the river to its banks.
On the tenth day the frog came back, sat on the rim, and asked for something else: the hibiscus by the gate, which opened every dawn and folded itself shut by sunset. Ansa went out with a cup of water and did not hurry. Ebo carried the pot. A blue butterfly settled on the rim and stayed while the petals closed, and when the frog hopped away into the reeds, the butterfly lifted and followed it.
