Furry character tattoo on the ribs

Realism · Ribs · Colour · Photo

A large portrait of a furry, orange-brown character with big dark eyes, a wide snout and an open mouth showing teeth, with tufts of hair on its head. The fur is rendered with fine, soft shading and highlights, and a deep purple wash sits behind the figure to add depth. The design wraps across the side of the ribcage, with the skin tone and a yellow top visible around it.

Dear Pen,

Don't laugh when I tell you, but there is a creature sleeping in the hay barn and it has eaten the entire Christmas ham. Not the bone, mind. The ham, a tin of toffees and two of Dad's good slippers. Walter found it first, nosing about by the feed bins at six in the morning, all orange fur and ears like a pair of old gloves. It has a snout you could post a letter through and a grin that sends the sheepdog off to sit under the tractor.

Walter wanted to ring the vet, then the council, then the man from the paper. I said we'd give it a week. It doesn't say much. It makes a noise like a kettle coming to the boil when it's pleased, and it has taken to sitting in the kitchen chair by the range, watching the weather forecast with its big dark eyes and nodding along as if it's checking the isobars itself. Yesterday it put on Mum's cardigan and wouldn't take it off until the frost thawed.

The strange part is the sheep. Last Tuesday the ewe that's been poorly since November stood up in the pen for the first time, and the creature was sitting on the gate with its knees under its chin, grinning as if it had arranged the whole thing. I don't know what it is. I'm not sure I want to know what it wants.

Anyway, it wants a lift to the station on Saturday, or so it wrote on the back of a feed sack in letters I'd call mostly capitals. I've said yes. Come for New Year and bring the good sherry. You can meet it yourself, though I'd keep your purse close.

Love, Jean
