Black line tattoo of a geometric animal face made of angular facets, placed on the side of the neck.

Geometric animal head on the neck

Geometric · Neck · Black and grey · Photo

A fine black outline tattoo shows an animal face built from angular, faceted geometric panels, with the ears, eyes and muzzle divided into triangles. The linework is solid and even, with no shading, and the ink is black on a light skin tone. The design fills the centre of the frame against plain skin, with the curve of the neck visible at the left edge.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Sit yourself down and mind the paraffin, because this is the tale of the cat that came up the Skerrow steps the winter the lens cracked. Its face was all angles, as if someone had folded a sheet of tin into a head and left the creases showing. Old Mairi swore it had walked straight out of the glass.

The keeper then was a man called Tomas Beck, who had counted every prism in the lantern room twice a week for thirty years and knew each one by its scratch. On the night of the gale he found a single panel of the great lens lying on the gallery, and where it had been, the light went out in a sharp wedge, a triangle of dark laid over the water. Ships in the sound steered by that dark and ran onto the Skerrow.

The cat sat on the rail in the rain and watched him. He did not chase it. He took a cloth and a pot of putty, climbed up, and fitted the glass back in edge by edge, while the animal followed each panel with its eyes until the beam swung clean across the sea again.

When the morning boat came, the panel was whole and the cat was gone, leaving three wet prints on the gallery and a light that never again went dark where it shouldn't. Mairi says the cat is still in there, keeping its angles straight. Mind you don't look too long at the lens, or you'll see its face looking back.
