Gold and pink temporary tattoo sheet
Botanical · Colour · Flash
A white sheet of metallic temporary tattoo designs in gold, silver and pink. The motifs include a dreamcatcher, two elephants, a heart of feathers and flowers, a rose spray, a crescent moon, a feather, mandalas, an eye and several bracelet-style bands. The outlines are fine and detailed, with ornamental patterning and even spacing across the sheet.

Mr Okafor swore the press had a temper, and on Thursdays it proved him right. Every week it ate a sheet of gold foil and spat out a pink smear, so he would kneel on the concrete of the print room in Holbeck and coax it with a rag and a tin of oil, muttering like a vicar at a font. I stood by the door with a flask of tea going cold and waited for him to swear at it in two languages.

The order that week was four hundred sheets for a shop in Harrogate: elephants, mandalas, a heart full of feathers, a rose spray, a dreamcatcher with its rings drawn so fine you could lose a hair in them. The first run came off the roll like sunlight on a canal. Then the press shuddered, stopped, and something small ticked against the platen.
It was a silver earring shaped like a crescent moon. Mine. I had lost it at the Kirkgate market in August, when the stall lights flickered and I was too proud to look for it on my knees. Mr Okafor turned it over in his oily fingers and said the press had been grumbling about it since the summer, because the foil had been picking up the crescent from the stall's floor and pressing it into every fourth sheet, a tiny moon hidden in the pattern.
I didn't believe him, so I checked. Sure enough, the crescents were there under the elephants, faint as breath on glass.
We pulled the batch anyway. Harrogate got their sheets, and each one carried a moon nobody had drawn. I have never worn one. But I keep the earring on the windowsill above the press, where the dreamcatcher's rings catch the morning and throw it back across the floor.
