Gold chevron tattoos on the thighs
Geometric · Thigh · Colour · Photo
Two matching gold metallic chevron designs sit on the upper thighs, one on each leg, and look like temporary metallic tattoos. The chevrons are built from stacked, outlined bands with a simple, graphic line weight and no shading. The warm gold stands out against the skin, while the pink knit jumper, stacked rings and nail art fill the foreground.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
The chevrons on the cargo tunnels of Halden Deep point downhill, always downhill, toward the reclamation shafts, and nobody who has worked the night shift trusts a sign that points anywhere else. I learned that from my aunt Sorcha, who ran the lamp crew for thirty years and never once got lost in the dark.

The gold came from the old foundry at Port Meric, where they still melted down wrecked rigs and rolled the metal into strips thin as cling film. Sorcha cut them into stacked bands and pressed them onto the rock ledges, one chevron over another, so that a helmet lamp would catch the shine and pull a worker along like a hand on a sleeve. She said gold was the only paint that remembered where it had been put.
The summer the seal on shaft nine failed, the air alarms went off and the main lamps died. I had eleven people on the wrong side of a rockfall and the radios were full of static. I crawled along the ledge with my fingertips on the stripes, counting the bands the way she taught me: two bands for a turn, three for a junction, a single thick band for the way out.
All eleven came up the ladder behind me that morning, coughing and swearing and alive. I have painted chevrons on every new shaft since, and I still count them under my breath, because some directions are safer when they are said aloud.
