You will remember the spike in the middle, where the needle jumped when the consultant made his terrible joke about apple trees. Dad said it looked like a hill with a heart sitting on top, and I never told him he was being soppy.

I meant to frame it for the hall. Then yesterday the wasps got into the Cox crate and I stood among the windfalls thinking the paper ought to go where the trees are, not where the visitors are.

So I have left it in the fruit store, weighted with a Bramley, between the crates where the light comes through the slats. If you come up on Sunday, bring the long ladder and the good secateurs.
