Hello Kitty mandala tattoo on upper back
Back · Mixed · Photo
A bold black outline frames a Hello Kitty face on the upper back, with the interior filled by fine black linework of paisley, swirls and a central flower motif. A red bow sits at the top right of the head, with a small orange-brown dot marking the nose, and the rest of the design is black ink on light skin. A pink flower tattoo is visible on the left shoulder and a grey wing tattoo on the right, with the wearer's neck and hair at the top of the frame.

Dear Maureen,

You'll think I've gone soft, but I've been sat in the cloakroom at the Palais with a needle and a bit of old pillowcase, and I've made the most ridiculous thing. Mrs Hirst's boy drew a cat on the back of a delivery docket, all round face and whiskers like bicycle spokes, and he said it was for luck. I didn't have the heart to tell him I'd already had enough luck with Ray Dobson, who has asked me to the Saturday waltz twice now and stood on my foot both times.
Anyway, the cat. I filled her face with paisley, the teardrop shapes Mum used on the christening shawl, and curls like the ones on the chandelier over the dance floor. Right in the middle I put a flower, the same as Mum's, and the nose I did in rust thread because the black ran out. The bow I did in red, which Mr Pym says is a waste of good red, but it's the only bit of colour in the whole thing and I like it being bossy.
Here's the strange part. When the band stopped for the interval Ray came into the cloakroom to fetch his scarf, saw the pillowcase on my knee, and didn't say a word. He just sat on the bench and watched me finish the whitework whiskers. Then he asked if I'd sew one on his jacket, the left shoulder, where he says a girl would put her hand. I said I'd want a dance first.
Write soon and tell me Canada has dance halls with better bands. Your loving sister, Eileen
