Hello Kitty sugar skull tattoo

Neo-trad · Colour · Photo

The tattoo shows a Hello Kitty face outlined in heavy black linework, with its features replaced by sugar skull motifs such as purple flower eyes, a purple diamond nose and red teardrop details. The pink bow has black spiderweb patterning and small floral swirls, and teal scrolls sit across the cheeks and forehead. The image is a close, straight-on photo with the tattoo filling the frame against a pale skin background.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Nobody had told the cat she was supposed to be frightening on the first of November. Pepper had spent the whole of October on the windowsill of number nine, pink bow askew, looking like a teacup someone had forgotten to fill. The children from number eleven kept knocking to ask whether she was a ghost, and Pepper kept licking her paw instead of answering.

Then Mrs Okafor from the bakery brought round a tin of painted sugar skulls, the kind with flowers for eyes, and tipped them out across the carpet. "Faces people wear so the dead don't feel forgotten," she said. "Nothing spooky about it." Pepper sniffed a purple petal, then a red teardrop, then sat down very slowly on the biggest one, as if she had planned it all along.

By dusk she had black spiderwebs stitched into the corners of her bow with thread Mags swore would never come out of the rug. Teal swirls curled across her cheeks where the cream had gone on too thick, and she walked the length of the hall with her chin high, like a cat who knew the sugar was on her side.

The children came back at seven. Pepper waited on the front step under the lamp, and when the eldest asked if she was a ghost, she blinked her flower eyes slowly and said nothing at all. The little ones shrieked and ran for the sweets, and that, it turned out, was all the cat had ever wanted from a holiday: somebody to be delighted by her.
