Hello Kitty tattoo with flowers and bows

Other · Colour · Photo

A large colour tattoo shows the Hello Kitty character with a pink bow at the centre, surrounded by pink flowers, a pink cupcake, a handbag, pink bows, small yellow ducks, hearts and stars. The words Hello Kitty run in black script along the top edge. The design uses bold black outlines with flat pink, yellow and red fills, and the composition fills the whole frame.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Mrs Pargeter had been carrying the same pink handbag to the harbour market for eleven years, and on the Saturday the lighthouse lamp failed, she decided it was finally time for a new one. The white cat with the enormous bow had watched her from the keeper's cottage windowsill all morning, and it was the cat who suggested the trip, or at least Mrs Pargeter told everyone it had. She wrapped a cupcake in greaseproof paper, tucked it inside the old bag with a spare ribbon, and set off along the shingle towards the town.

The lighthouse stood on the point above her, its glass dark for the first time since the storms of the spring, and the gulls kept circling it as if it owed them an explanation. Ducks waddled across the car park in a yellow line, nine of them, and the eldest, a drake with a bent tail feather, stopped to inspect the cupcake. Mrs Pargeter gave him a corner of it. He accepted with the dignity of a magistrate.

At the stall with the secondhand bags she found it: a small square case stitched with a red flower, the exact shade of the foxgloves that grew wild along the cliff path. The woman behind the counter wanted four pounds. Mrs Pargeter offered three, then a cupcake, then the spare ribbon. They settled on the ribbon and a promise to return the cat's favourite bow once it had been washed.

Back at the point, she climbed the iron stairs with the new bag over her arm. The lamp was still dark, so she lit it by hand, and as the first beam swept out over the water the ducks turned as one to watch it go. The cat in the window, she was almost certain, blinked twice in approval.
