Inspire lettering with semicolon
Lettering · Black and grey · Flash
The image shows the word inspire written in thin, handwritten black script on a plain white background. A semicolon-style mark takes the place of the dot over the i after the p. The linework is a consistent monoline with no shading, and the lettering is centred with generous white space around it.

Dear Tom,

The snow closed the pass on Tuesday and it has not opened since. There are eleven of us now at the Stag and Lantern, which is four more than the landlord planned for and two fewer than he has blankets. Mrs Pryce has taken over the kitchen and says the mutton will stretch if we let it. I have not been asked to do anything useful, so I have been sitting by the back window with your old pencil, counting the drifts on the wall of the yard.
Something happened last night I want to tell you properly. A man came down from the top road with a boy on his shoulders, both of them grey with snow. He set the boy by the fire and then sat down himself and could not speak for a long while. Nobody asked him anything. Mrs Pryce just put a cup in his hands and went on stirring. Later he told me he had meant to stop halfway through a sentence to his wife, that he had been trying to finish it for six years, and the boy had asked him why he kept stopping.
I didn't know what to say, so I told him about you, and the letter you never sent me from Leeds. I think I have been waiting for you to finish your sentence too. Perhaps that is what a pause is for. It holds the place open without deciding anything.
The thaw is due Thursday. I will post this when the carter comes, and if you have any sense you will write back with the whole sentence this time.
Yours, Nell
