Fine line script tattoo reading je t'aime across the side of a finger, with a ring on the next finger.

Je t'aime script on a finger

Fine line · Hand · Colour · Photo

A close photograph of the words je t'aime written in a thin, flowing script along the side of a finger. The linework is delicate and even, and the skin around the lettering looks slightly red, which suggests the tattoo is fresh or still healing. The ink appears pale, and the plain background and soft lighting keep the focus on the lettering.

Dear Marguerite, the ferry was late again, so I sat on the harbour wall at Newhaven with my tea going cold and counted gulls. Your brother's boat came in at four with no fish aboard, only a crate of wet rope and a man who would not look at me. I did not ask. I know what it means when a man will not look at you.

Pa has taken the forest path up to the old charcoal clearing to see if the burners are still there. Mrs Okafor at the shop says the woods have gone quiet since the frost, and the foxes come right up to the lych gate after dark. I told her that is what foxes do in a hard winter. She said I sounded exactly like you when I said it.

I had the ink done on Thursday, at the parlour behind the chemist, by a man who smoked the whole time and called me love. He wrote the words out on a scrap of paper first, je t'aime, and I made him redo the accent twice because the first one leaned like a fence in a gale. It is pale, nearly the colour of the skin itself, and the letters look like they were drawn with a sewing needle. He said they would sharpen as it healed. Pale is what I wanted. I did not want anyone reading it from across a room.

Come home before the thaw and bring the good thread. And if the ferry is late again, do not come by the forest. Come by the road where the lamps are, and I will be on the wall with two cups.
