Jurassic Park logo on a forearm
Forearm · Colour · Photo
A close photograph of a person's inner forearm bearing a tattoo of the Jurassic Park logo. A black silhouette of a T-rex in profile sits within an orange circle with a red outline, and the words Jurassic Park run across a red band below it. The shading is smooth with a gradient from yellow-orange to deeper orange, and the framing is tight on the arm against a plain pale background.

Every evening the sky went the colour of a marmalade tin left out in the sun, and the old crane driver would lean on the rail and swear the hills were breathing.

One night the generator failed and the whole place went dark except the lamps along the fence. In that orange light coming off the water, a shadow climbed the slope in profile, head low, jaw held the way a dog carries a stick it doesn't mean to drop. Nobody ran. My uncle said that was either the bravest or the stupidest thing he ever saw, and he was never sure which. He walked out with a torch that had no battery left in it and simply stood there, and the creature stopped and looked at him for as long as it takes a kettle to go cold.
Then it turned, slow as a tide coming in, and went back into the ferns.
In the morning the fence was down, the generator was humming like nothing had happened, and the only proof left was a print in the mud by the gate, three toes and a smear of orange where the sun had caught it. Mind the ward door on your way out. Some things only come close when the lights are low.
