Black and grey realism tattoo of a lace garter with a ribbon bow and small gem on the outer thigh.

Lace garter tattoo with bow on thigh

Realism · Thigh · Black and grey · Photo

The tattoo shows a lace garter wrapped around the thigh, with a ribbon bow and an oval gem at its centre. The bow and lace are shaded in soft greys with smooth gradients and fine detailing on the lace edges. The design is shown in a close, slightly angled photograph of a bare leg outdoors, with the tattoo filling the middle of the frame.

Dear Mags, the road over Stainmoor shut on Tuesday and the coach went back to Kirkby with the mail, so you will have to forgive the state of this paper. I am writing at the corner table by the kitchen range, where the landlady has let me stay since the snow came in. She has a cat called Parson who sleeps on my feet and refuses to be moved.

I did finish the lace. You will want to know that before anything else. Mrs Tennant's order for the bride's garter came to me the week before the wedding, and the bride had changed her mind twice about the bow. In the end she wanted it cut from the old silk ribbon her grandmother wore, and set with the little oval paste stone from the brooch lost in the mill pond. I stitched the bow on the Thursday night by one candle and I fear I stabbed my thumb four times.

Then the snow. The bride's brother rode out to fetch the garter from the carrier at Brough, and he came back with it wrapped in oilcloth and frost in his moustache, saying the road had closed behind him. So now the garter is in my workbox and the wedding is a fortnight off with no way to get it there. The landlady says the men will dig a path to the church by Friday if the wind drops.

I have been thinking, with Parson warm on my feet, that a bow ought to be tied on a thing that moves, not one left waiting in a box. Perhaps I will carry it over myself if the road opens. Write back if the post gets through, and tell Father the stone is real paste and not glass, whatever Mrs Tennant says.
