Lettering design reading God and sisters
Lettering · Mixed · Flash
The sheet shows two copies of the same script and sans serif lettering design, with a partial arc ending in a small cross, a heart outline and a looping flourish. The top copy has the word sisters in purple and the bottom copy is entirely black. The linework is clean and even, with bold and light strokes mixed across the words, and the two designs are arranged side by side on a plain white background.

Ruth went back for the goat before the snow closed the lane, and she came home without it, which was how the village learned that the Pardoe girls were not to be parted after all. Minnie had her boots laced and her bundle tied when the carter from Wexby pulled up at the chapel gate. The parish had decided that two girls with no mother and no coin were better split between two farms. Minnie stood with one hand on the cart wheel and would not let go.

"God made us friends," Ruth said once, to nobody, while she worked the goat's rope through a knot. It was an old saying their mother used to say over the bread. Hearts made us sisters, she would finish, and then laugh at her own cleverness. Ruth did not laugh now. She took the long way round the forest edge, past the holly and the drowned oak, because the lane had become a white ditch and the path under the trees still held a little light.
The carter waited an hour at the chapel gate. Then the vicar came out with his lantern, found Minnie gone too, and saw the wheel-rut filling with snow. Ruth heard the bell before she saw the lantern, and she followed the sound through the trees with the goat walking sulkily behind her.
They met at the stile where the forest path met the road. Neither spoke. Ruth unwound her shawl and put it round her sister's shoulders, and Minnie scratched a small heart into the stile post with a nail from her bundle, with two letters beneath it, one above the other. In the morning the carter took the goat instead of the girls, and the vicar wrote in his book that the Pardoe sisters had settled things between themselves.
