Lion and flower leg sleeve
Realism · Thigh · Black and grey · Photo
A full leg sleeve shows a lion's face with a flowing mane at the upper thigh, surrounded by daisy-like flowers and swirling foliage. Lower down the leg sit a pocket watch and a scroll banner with partly visible lettering, with more floral detail between them. The shading is smooth and detailed in black and grey, and the design wraps around the leg against a purple couch.

Sit down, sit, the bench is only cold on the left. You want to know why the lion at the Kessel gate never eats the travellers? My grandmother had it from a man who was stamped through here the spring the bridge went into the river, and he swore it was true, though he'd had two glasses of plum brandy by then.

The customs post had a clerk called Anton Brenner, who kept a pocket watch on a chain. Every morning he wound it, held it to his ear, and said the same thing to the lion painted on the barrier: "Nothing passes that hasn't a paper, and time passes whether you have one or not." The lion was only paint then, a great face on a board, with a mane like smoke and daisies climbing its legs because the village children had pulled them up and dropped them there. Nobody thought much of it.
Then the flood came, and Brenner went out to the water with his watch still in his fist, and the current took him at the second arch. The watch stopped at a quarter past four. They say the hands never moved again, and that the daisies on the barrier opened every morning at that hour, even in frost.
So when a traveller comes to the gate with no papers, the guard looks up at the lion, the lion looks down at the watch, and the watch still says a quarter past four. Then the guard stamps a sheet that says nothing here is owed, and waves them on. That's all. Now, your coat, or you'll catch your death out there, and that is a true sentence too.
