Mandala flower drawing on watercolour wash
Geometric · Mixed · Flash
A symmetrical, eight-pointed mandala flower is drawn in fine black ink, with layered petals, dotted rings and curled scroll details radiating from a central medallion. The linework is clean and even, with the ink left unshaded. The design sits centred on a loose wash of teal, green and pale blue watercolour that fades to white at the edges.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
The lighthouse keeper's daughter had been tracing the same mandala into the frost on the kitchen window since the boats stopped coming in, eight petals opening from a dot the size of a pea. Her father watched from the stove. He said nothing about the cold coming through the glass, only that the bread would not rise in a room that cold.

She drew it again the morning the tide turned strange, and this time the frost held. Beneath the petals she scratched a ring of small dots, then curls like the tendrils on the peas in the garden, then a second ring, until the pattern filled the pane from edge to edge. When the sun reached it, the lines caught the light and threw it across the flagstones in pale green, the colour of sea glass, the colour of the wash that bled outward from the centre and thinned to nothing at the frame.
The fishing boats came home that week, all six of them, though no one could say afterwards which way they had come round the headland. The keeper's daughter never told anyone how. She only kept the window clean, so that anyone rowing in from the dark could see the flower at the centre of the glass and know which way was home.
