Matching Assassin's Creed quote tattoos on forearms
Lettering · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two matching tattoos sit side by side on a pair of forearms, each showing a bold hooded emblem resembling the Assassin's Creed logo. Curved black lettering reads Nothing is true above and is permitted below on one arm, and Everything is permitted above and Is true below on the other, forming a mirrored pair. The work uses solid black ink with some grey shading, and the lettering is set on the curve of the arm against a plain background.

Mags had the ladder braced against the Bramley when the van pulled up on the lane, and she didn't come down until the gate had banged twice. Her brother Tomasz was already walking up the rows with a crate under each arm, saying nothing about the bruise on his wrist or the envelope from the bank that he'd shoved into the glovebox of his car.

They had made a pact at fourteen, under the crooked pear tree behind their nan's cottage: every promise would be chalked on a shared slate, and every slate would be wiped with the same damp rag. Nothing is true, the slate said in Mags's careful capitals. Everything is permitted, Tomasz had answered in his, the letters climbing the edge where the chalk ran out. They had thought it was the cleverest thing anyone had ever said.
Now the picking had gone badly. The frost in May had taken half the blossom, and the buyer from the cider house wanted what was left by Friday at a price that wouldn't cover the diesel. Mags climbed down, wiped her hands on her jeans, and went to the shed where the old slate still leaned against the wall, grey with dust.
She turned it over. On the back, in her brother's handwriting from years ago, someone had written a single line of instructions for the press: keep the cloth clean, and tell the truth to the one who pays. She stood there a long time, apples bruising in the crate by her feet, then took the rag from the nail and wiped the front clean.
